Structural Elements:
Seismic retrofit
Warehouse remodel
Rooftop mechanical equipment bracing
CG Engineering provided the structural engineering for the remodel of an existing 76,000 square foot tilt-up concrete warehouse building. The existing warehouse was transformed into a high tech data center, which houses computer servers and other electrical equipment. In order to cool the computer equipment, fourteen 90-ton rooftop air conditioning units, each weighing 18,000 pounds, were placed on a new steel frame structure above the roof. A seismic retrofit of the existing steel deck diaphragm was required to support the additional seismic forces associated with the added mechanical weight. Subsequent to the original change-of-use, CG Engineering provided additional structural design services for a second remodel involving the support of additional mechanical and electrical equipment.
