Seattle, WAStructural Elements:
Assessment of steel/masonry building
Structural repair and retrofit
CG Engineering provided a structural assessment of water-damaged framing members that were discovered at the one-story steel/masonry building. The inspections were requested when a corroded steel beam was discovered during a building envelope repair project. At the initial assessment, it was determined that more brick must be removed to discover the extent of the damage and determine if the structure had been compromised. We performed a second and third site visit and observed significant corrosion of the steel beams, warranting repair. It was determined that the repair could be accomplished from the outside of the building with minimal disruption to the tenant. We provided structural repair and retrofit details to the contractor.
