CAMP WASKOWITZ
WATER TOWER RENOVATION

The existing redwood water tank at Camp Waskowitz was built in 1980. The tank holds 260,000 gallons of water. The wood walls had started to deteriorate at the base and the ring that sealed this connection to the concrete slab was leaking approx. 50 gallons per minute. The tank was renovated by the installation of a new concrete tank inside, using the wooden tank as the form work. The new reinforced concrete slab floor foundation was in place, and the walls were reinforced shotcrete. This option allowed for the reuse of most of the existing tank and had the lowest impact on the environment. This also sped up the repair by eliminating all of the environmental permitting required for a new site to be cleared. This method saved the School District as much as $56,000 and shortened the time frame of the actual replacement. A quick repair was essential because the tank was utilized for fire protection and the leak was eroding soil near Interstate 90.
